FAQs

I can hopefully answer some of the questions you may have below, but please feel free to get in touch if there’s anything you would like to ask.

Workshop FAQs

What is Wet felting?

Wet felting involves laying out wisps of wool in different directions, sprinkling them with warm soapy water and then gently rubbing and rolling them until all the fibres have completely bonded together.

Is Wet felting the same as Needle Felting?

NO – Wet felting uses soap, water and friction (rubbing and rolling) to felt the fibres, whereas needle felting uses a barbed needle.

Can anyone try wet felting?

Yes, but people with arthritis in the fingers may have a little difficultly laying out the wool.  Also making a 3D item such as a bag, bowl etc,  can be tiring on the wrist, neck and shoulders.  Anyone with injuries or weakness in those areas would be advised to contact Karen before booking, or begin with making pictures rather than a 3D item, as these are less strenuous.

Do I need to bring anything?

The only things you need to bring are 2 hand towels (not tea towels) and a suitable bag to take your damp felted item home in.  All other materials are provided. For all day workshops you may need a packed lunch. Please view the course details for more information.

Are your courses suitable for beginners?

Yes. Almost all of my workshops are suitable for beginners.  Occasionally I run a workshop  that requires a little knowledge but this will be specified in the course description.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

Yes, I sell gift vouchers for workshops.  Please view the shop page and select Gift Vouchers

Product FAQs

Are your items washable?

A care sheet will be sent with all orders.  All bags and wearables can be gently washed by hand with a gentle soap.  They cannot be put in the washing machine or a tumble dryer.

How hard wearing are your bags.

Wool bags are surprisingly hardwearing if they have been felted thoroughly.  I use coarse wool and felt them for several hours to ensure they are robust and will not pill.  Wool is also naturally resistant to dirt, dust and water.   If a bag gets wet the water will bead on the surface, so just give it a shake and the water will fall off. Dirt and dust also sit on the surface because of the characteristics of the wool, so can be brushed off or handwashed/ sponged with a gentle soap.  Wool also does not scratch or crease either like leather does, so will stay looking good for several years.
